Spiro trienones are an important class of compounds in synthetic organic chemistry, known for their complex three-dimensional structures and potential applications in pharmaceuticals and materials science. Bi-aryl ynones, characterized by the conjugation of an alkyne with two aryl rings, have emerged as a highly versatile structural motif for the construction of spiro trienones. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the synthetic approaches to spiro trienones using bi-aryl ynones, exploring their struc- tural features, reactivity, and the underlying mechanisms of their transformations. The review also discusses the broad scope of these reactions and highlights recent ad- vances that have expanded the utility of bi-aryl ynones in organic synthesis. Potential applications of spiro trienones in drug discovery and materials science are also discussed, along with future directions for research in this area.
